The Mets finally got their compensation for Francisco Rodriguez from the Brewers, getting Danny Ray Herrera, a 5’6’’ lefty with big league experience who could be in Flushing this September and could be a part of the teams future as a LOOGY and Adrian Rosario, a 6’4’’ righty with a live arm and plenty of potential, but the results have not been there yet. Baltimore took him in the rule 5 draft last year but he did not make it out of spring training. Classic Alderson pick going after a higher-ceiling guy. Now onto last night’s games:Syracuse 6, Buffalo 2Dylan Owen only pitched to 1 batter before leaving, forcing the bullpen to take it the rest of the way. Everyone gave up at least 1 run except for Jose De La Torre who struck out 3 in 1.2 scoreless innings. Jordany Valdespin was one of three Bisons that had 2 hits.Binghamton 2, Erie 1Collin McHugh pitched a complete game giving up just 1 run on 5 hits and 2 walks, while striking out 11. Very impressive. Reese Havens was 1-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Kai Gronauer hit his 4th homer of the year.Palm Beach 5, St. Lucie 4Zach Wheeler threw 2 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 5 before leaving due to a pitch count as he tunes up for the playoffs, which the Lucies are limping into after another loss. Scott Moviel and Erik Niesen followed Wheeler and gave up all the runs. Jefry Marte, Travis Ozga, and Jose Coronado all had 2 hits. Gilbert Gomez homered, his 4th in 18 games in the FSL; incredible. Cesar Puello hit a 3-run homer, his 10th of the year.Savannah 6, Lexington 5Angel Cuan let up 1 unearned run on 1 hit in 5 innings, striking out 5. The lefty brigade of chase Huchingson, Adam Kolarek, and Hamilton Bennett weren’t great but they got the job done. The Gnats took advantage of 5 Lexington errors. They also got help from Rafael Fernandez who had 3 hits, including 2 triples. Wilfredo Tovar homered, just his 2nd of the year. Juan Carlos Gamboa went 2-4 with an RBI after getting called up from Kingsport to help Savannah in the playoffs. The Gnats magic number to clinch a second half division title is 2, which should go nicely with their first half division title.Brooklyn 7, Lowell 1The Cyclones inched towards the playoffs with this win. Five different pitchers contributed, giving up just 1 run on 7 hits. Daniel Muno, Charlie Thurber, and Cole Frenzel all had 3 hits; Frenzel had 4 RBI’s. Richard Lucas contributed 2 hits and an RBI. Williamsport lost which gives Brooklyn a 1 game lead for the wildcard as they finish the season with 3 games against first place Staten Island.
