The Sand Gnats are now on the cusp of winning the South Atlantic League for the first time as an affiliate of the New York Mets, and for the first time since 1996.  Though Johan Santana did not pitch as scheduled, and may not tonight, Savannah is now in the driver’s seat Savannah 4, Greensboro 3 - 11 innings (Savannah leads series tied 2-1)The Sand Gnats got single runs in the second and fourth innings, but could never score the knockout blow and Tyler Whittenton let the Grasshoppers (ed note: they are a Florida Marlins affiliate, not Chicago Cubs as previously reports.  Hope this makes it sweeter for a few of you) back in the game.  Greensboro then went up 3-2 in the seventh inning but Savannah came right back in the bottom of the innings, as Rafael Fernandez doubled home Darrel Ceciliani – who was 3 for 4 with two runs scored.  From then on it became a battle of the bullpens as Adam Kolarek, Hamilton Bennett (rebounding from his Game One disaster) and Chase Huchginson combined for 4.1 shutout innings.  Finally, in the bottom of the eleventh, Joe Bonfe delivered a two out, bases loaded single to score Ceciliani for the game winner.  Game Four is tonight, and the champagne will be on ice…
