Today it's been reported that Oliver Perez has had a setback. To suggest he's had a setback sort of implies that he was making progress, but his recent minor league rehab outing showed little if any of that. To be fair, the setback is related more to patellar tendinitis and less to pitching performance. However, Tim Redding's poor performance today and this setback for Perez make the acquisition of 2005 Chicago White Sox #1 draft pick Lance Broadway more relevant. Broadway seems less likely to be AAA filler and more likely to find himself in the major league rotation the way things are currently unfolding. Of course Broadway will have to choose a different uniform number if he is indeed recalled. To read some further thoughts on the latest developments in the continuing saga of Oliver Perez, please visit Ben Shpigel's New York Times blog, or David Lennon's Newsday blog, and for a snippet of MLB Network video in which Greg Amsinger, Mitch Williams and Dan Plesac discuss it, please click here.
