"People all over the world, join hands, start a Mets train, Mets train"The New York Mets came into tonight's game with a 9-6 record against left handed starting pitchers and a .295 team batting average against left handed pitchers, the best in the National League.   They did not disappoint in either category, getting 7 hits in 21 at bats (.333) against lefty starter Wade LeBlanc (2-4) as the Mets beat the host San Diego Padres 4-2.The next stage reveals # 34 Mets jerseyMike Pelfrey (8-1) continued his career metamorphosis.   He threw 110 pitches over 8 innings, his longest outing of the season, allowing 1 run on only 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 8 which tied his career high.   Pelfrey is now 5-0 in 6 starts following a Mets loss.   Francisco Rodriguez relieved and recorded the save, his 10th, in typical tightrope fashion.Mr. Wright said to the PadresDavid Wright continued his ownership of the Padres with 3 hits.   One of those hits was a 1st inning single which drove Luis Castillo home to make it 1-0 Mets.   On the same hit Jason Bay was out at the plate by a small margin on an excellent throw from Padres CF Tony Gwynn Jr.   Wright also singled and stole a base in the 4th inning and capped off his 3-hit night with a solo home run to deep left center in the 6th which gave the Mets a 2-0 lead."Boom baby!"The Padres cut that lead in half in the bottom of the 6th when gritty second baseman David Eckstein drove in Gwynn with an RBI double.   Then in the top of the 7th Castillo beat out an infield single on a close play at first base.   After Bay struck out, Ike Davis crushed a 2-run homer to center for a 4-1 Mets lead which remained until the tenuous 9th which was started by the sandpaper man Eckstein who doubled leading off against the closer Rodriguez.   After Adrian Gonzalez flew out, Chase Headley singled moving Eckstein to third base and bringing the tying run to the plate.   A Nick Hundley single scored Eckstein making it 4-2 but KRod then struck out Jerry Hairston Jr. and Chris Denorfia to snuff the Padres rally and end the ballgame.Box score
