When the Florida Marlins 1B Gaby Sanchez clubbed a 3-run homer off of Elmer Dessens in the bottom of the 8th inning to break a 2-2 tie it sounded the death knell for the New York Mets 2010 season.  Unable to come from behind to win the game the Mets have been officially, mathematically, undeniably eliminated from post season contention.  Thank God that monkey is off their backs!  Now they can relax and play like they're capable of, .500 ball.  Let the off season and all it's rampant often unfounded speculation begin!  Final score Florida Marlins 5, New York Mets 2.The Mets got ahead early when Lucas Duda hit a solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd to give them a 1-0 lead.  A Chad Tracy RBI ground out tied the game at 1 in the bottom of the 2nd.  It stayed that way until the bottom of the 7th when David Wright made a fielding error allowing Sanchez to score giving the Marlins a 2-1 lead.  Wright atoned for his error in the top of the 8th hitting a solo homer to tie the game and set up Sanchez' dramatic game-winning, Met-season-ending blast.  As has largely been the story of the 2010 season the Mets wasted a good effort by their starting pitcher.  Mike Pelfrey threw 112 pitches over 7 innings allowing only 2 runs, 1 earned, on 5 hits, but it wasn't enough to keep the Mets from another October off.box score
