John Maine took the hill tonight  and things didn't look good from the first pitch, which was exactly like the 8th pitch, a ball.   Maine walked the bases loaded and after Jorge Cantu lined out to Reyes, Maine walked   Dan Uggla and Florida was on the board without a single hit.  Maine almost got out of the inning  until  Cameron Maybin would hit a 2 out  up the middle base hit which would score 2 more runs.   When all was said and done, the Marlins had 3 runs on ONE hit- Maine threw 40 pitches.   The Mets bounced back in the top of the second with a David Wright   440 foot  Bomb to dead center.   Ike Davis almost went yard himself as he hit the top of the wall for a double.   Rod Barajas followed with a base hit to right field  and Ike was sent home and nailed at the plate.Maine found the plate the bottom  in the bottom of the  second inning  and in the top of the third the Mets Offense showed some life.   Reyes bunted( that's right, I said bunted!) his way on and with  a throwing error by Nat Robertson, advanced to second.   Reyes showed a little better smarts and a little foot speed to get to third on a Castillo ground out and a with a Pagan walk, Jason Bay hit a single scoring Reyes and advancing Pagan to third.   A David Wright's Sac Fly would score Pagan and the Mets would have the game knotted at 3 a piece.  Maine worked around some trouble in the bottom of the third and approached the 4th inning with over 70 pitches.   It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth that the wheels came off for Maine.  Frenchy failed to run down a  a pop up by Hanely Ramirez and when he tried to take second, Frenchy overthrew Reyes and Rameriz landed up on third.   With over a 100 pitches thrown, Maine began to look a little tired and gave up a Cantu double, scoring Rameriz, and then a Cody Ross single, scoring Cantu.   Maybin would hit a sac fly and  enable Cantu to jog home.   The Marlins would take the lead 6-3.The final line on Maine, 112 pitches, 6 runs and 5 walks.David Wright singled in the top of the 6th and after an acrobatic play by Cantu to get Davis out, the Marlins removed Nat Robertson for Chris Leroux who promptly stuck out Frenchy which extended his slump to 0-16.   The Marlins would add another run in the bottom of the sixth when Gaby  Sanchez collected second hit of the night off of Jenrry Mejia and  Hanely Rameriz singled  him in.But the Mets would chip away a run when   Brian Sanches came in the top of the 7th and gave up a hit the Chris "the animal" Carter, after a  Reyes fly out, Castillo hit a triple into the gap that scored Cater.   Sanches was lifted for Clay Hensley to pitch to Pagan who grounded out.   Manny Acosta came in the bottom of the 7th and pitched around a double by Brett Hayes. The Mets were running out of outs and when Jason Bay led off the top of the 8th with a double things looked like they might turn but  Wright stuck out for the 49th time this season and Davis hit the ball right back to the pitcher advancing Bay to third.   Frenchy with a chance for an RBI and to get off the snide, hit a fly ball to Left Field thus ending the 8th inning threat. Pedro Feliciano pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth.   The Marlins brought in  Leo Nunez to close out the game.  Things looked up when Rod Barajas  hit a nice shot into  the left field corner but   he made a running gaffe when he tried to stretch it into a double and was nailed sliding into second.   Alex Cora flied out to Right Field.   Jose Reyes kept the game  alive with a double down the Right Field line which enabled Luis Castillo to hit a base hit up the middle to score Reyes.   Ironically, who gets up Angel Pagan, the number 3 hitter, who bounced the ball to first to end the game. The Mets are now 18-19 and are now sitting behind the Marlins in the National League East.   The Mets have lost 4 in a row and tomorrow try to avoid a sweep.
