Post Game: Mets drop another to the Redbirds 5-1.
OK, I'm going to skip all the play by play action because except for a sac fly, the Mets had absolutely no offense. And, like they always seem to do, the Mets made a pitcher who just came off of a two DL look like Cy Young.Making his eighth start of the year, Matt Harvey took the ball for the Amazin's while Jaime Garcia, just coming off two months of inactivity due to a shoulder strain, took the hill for the Cards. Harvey, again, was throwing gas....even as early as the first inning touching 97 on the gun. Garcia lasted until the seventh inning. The Cards put a three spot on the board and it all started with Yadier Molina's 1000th career hit. David Freese would push him to second and with no outs, Skip Schumaker punched a ball into left field for the first run of the game. Two more runs were added via a sac fly and base hit. They tacked on two more runs with some small ball later on in the gameI think the story tonight, however, is the young pitching the Mets put on display. Now Matt Harvey gets the loss, but he pitched with tenacity and grit. He lasted only 5 innings, giving up 6 hits and three runs, striking out 4. September call up Justin Hampson pitched in the bottom of the sixth and only gave up a small-ball run.(base hit, stolen base, ground out, sac fly). The Mets also unveiled Jeury's Familia in the bottom of the eighth who opened up his major league career with a strike out of Lance Berkman. He touched 97 on the radar gun as well. The Mets will try to win at least one game when the face the Cardinals tomorrow at 1 PM.
