Mets dropped the third game with the Pirates by a score of 9-3. It was a very defensive game for the most part and a pitching duel until all hell broke lose in the 7th and 8th. Chris Capuano was staked to a 2 run lead thanks to a two run single from Ruben Tejada in the 1st. Andrew McCutchen started the 7th with a single and Neil Walker reached on a bunt single to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 out. Matt Diaz singled to load the bases and Chris Snyder brought home the first(of many Pirate runs) Pirate run with a single. Lyle Overbay followed that up with a single of his own to tie the game. Pedro Beato would be called to come in and got Cedeno to strike out but gave up a single to Xavier Paul to add another run to the Pirates line. Jose Tabata would ground into a fielder's choice that would score yet another run and after a subsequent steal of second, Josh Harrison singled to drive in one more run. Beato would strike out McCutchen to finally end that inning. Sorry for the long wind sentences but if you were able to follow that(pat yourself on the back), Pirates scored 5 to go up 5-2.
In the sequel to the 7th inning, Niel Walker got on base with a lead off walk. Brandon Wood would double to add yet another run to the Pirates ledger. Chris Snyder would get hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd with 0 out. Mike O'Conner would "relieve" Beato and promptly surrender a single to Lyle Overbay to score Wood. Cedeno would walk to load the bases and as if you needed to guess, Pirates would cash in again with a single by Xavier Paul to add another run(noticing a theme here?). Thayer would come in to relieve Mike for the Mets and got Jose Tabata to ground into a fielder's choice with a play at home. Garrett Jones would come in for the Pirates and hit a sac fly to score another run for the Pirates. Thayer would get McCutchen to ground into a fielder's choice to end the inning. Again, congrats if you were able to keep up with all of that. Pirates lead would bubble to 9-2.
In what would amount to a laugher, Terry Collins must have been asking himself "Why is the rum always gone?"(my money is on Pelf...guy always sounds like he has a buzz). Mets would get one run back on a Justin Turner home run but it was pretty much over by the 8th. Mets lose 9-2. A more comprehensive post game can be found here
