Leading off the bottom of the 1st inning New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes reached base on a bunt single.  The next batter, left fielder Angel Pagan, slammed a home run over the Great Wall of Flushing making it 2-0 Mets.  A 5th inning single by Henry Blanco was the only other offense the Mets would muster.  Mets starting pitcher Jonathon Niese held the Colorado Rockies to 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 7 over 7 innings and left the game with a 2-1 lead.Newly minted 8th inning guy swing-pitcher Hisanori Takahashi got 2 quick outs in the 8th then got into a spot of trouble when Todd Helton singled then Carlos Gonzalez walked so Mets manager Jerry Manuel replaced Takahashi with Manny Acosta.  Acosta promptly threw a wild pitch allowing both baserunners to move into scoring position so the decision was made to intentionally walk Troy Tulowitzki and load the bases, which as most baseball fans know, creates the opportunity for an inning-ending force out at any base.  Sadly most baseball fans also know that bases being loaded creates the opportunity for a grand slam which is precisely what ex-Met Melvin Mora hit off of Acosta making it 5-2 Rockies.  An unintentional walk and 2 singles later the Rockies had another run and after the top of the 8th inning they led 6-2.  The final 15 Mets batters went down in order as meekly as most of the previous ones including David Wright striking out for the 4th time in the game in the 9th inning.  Final score Colorado 6, New York 2.box score
