Given that the New York Mets got only 3 hits, the story was clearly the pitching and defense. Tonight the pitching was provided by Mike Pelfrey (13-7) who threw a career high 124 pitches over 8 scoreless innings, and Hisanori Takahashi who did allow 1 inherited runner to score but ultimately bailed Bobby Parnell out of trouble in the 9th to earn his 2nd save. The defense was provided by Jeff Francoeur who took advantage of a base running gaffe by Chris Johnson to gain an outfield assist to end the 4th inning, and Henry Blanco who threw out Michael Bourn attempting to steal to end the 5th, and Ruben Tejada who made a nice catch running to then reaching over the left field tarp to pull in a foul pop which ended the 7th, and Ike Davis who worked a nifty 3-6-3 double play with Tejada after the lead off batter reached in the 8th.The Mets runs came meekly. In the 1st inning Luis Castillo singled, moved to 2nd base on old friend Nelson Figueroa's (3-2) throwing error on a pick off attempt, moved to 3rd base on a wild pitch then scored on a David Wright sacrifice fly. The insurance run that they greatly needed came in the 4th. With 1 out Davis walked, Francoeur singled then Blanco walked to load the bases. Figueroa then walked Tejada to drive in the ultimate winning run. Final score New York 2, Houston 1.
