bow20wow20buddiesTonight the ballplayers nobody wanted came through for the visitors.   Fresh off their appearance in the lineup Saturday that prompted hours of sports talk show calls and spirited debate at this blog, the Mets corps of Bow Wow Buddies, represented tonight by Jeremy Reed, Wilson Valdez, and Brian Schneider provided most of the offense against the Pittsburgh Pirates.   The trio combined to go 5 for 11 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI.barrelsUnfortunately, the Big Guns fell silent for the Mets and they lost to the host Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5.   J.J. Putz allowed 4 runs without recording an out in the 8th inning, surrendering the lead and wiping out the Bow Wow Buddies contributions.unwantedpaPedro Feliciano, the bullpen's Bow Wow Buddy, the last holdover from the 2008 bullpen everyone wants to forget, retired the side 1-2-3 on a line drive to Valdez at short bookended by 2 strikeouts in the 7th inning to hold the lead.   Feliciano did allow a leadoff double to Adam LaRoche to start the 8th, then was lifted after inducing Eric Hinske to ground out to second.Taking the mound with 1 out and a runner on second and the Mets leading 5-3, Putz gave up 4 consecutive singles to luminaries Andy LaRoche, Jason Jaramillo, Jack Wilson and pinch hitter Delwyn Young, letting in not only the baserunner he inherited from Feliciano but 2 runs of his own, giving up the lead and recording a blown save.   The fourth run scored when Bow Wow Buddy Valdez forgot that he had to field his position too, and Jack Wilson crossed home plate while Valdez bobbled a Freddy Sanchez grounder in the hole.   The fifth and final run of the inning scored on a sacrifice fly hit by Nate McLouth, the 9th batter of the inning, off of Brian Stokes.Pinch hitter Fernando Tatis lead off the 9th inning for the Mets with a single, but Pirate closer Matt Capps, whose middle name is Dicus, retired the next 3 batters in order to record the save.24-277family-guy-stewie-most-wanted-postersThe 3-4-5 hitters in the Mets order tonight, Daniel Murphy, Gary Sheffield and David Wright, combined to go 0 for 10 with 2 walks, 1 run scored and 1 RBI.   The Met offense as a whole basically shut down after the 3rd inning, recording no hits until Tatis' pinch single in the 9th.Livan Hernandez, who started the season as a Bow Wow Buddy but seemingly graduated with a 1-run complete game victory in his last start, pitched adequately, giving up 3 runs in the 4th inning after being staked to a 5-0 lead.   He left the mound with   2 on and 2 outs in the 6th and Bobby Parnell gave up a single to load the bases before getting pinch hitter Ramon Vazquez to strike out on a checked swing, holding the lead.Fernando Martinez had the first 2 stolen bases of his young career.   Since beginning his major league tenure 0 for 9, Martinez has gone 4 for 9 and walked twice.Ultimately, tonight's game was seemingly played in a parallel universe in which everything is not what it should be.   The Mets no one wanted made significant contributions, and the Mets everybody wanted failed to produce.   Thankfully, Johan Santana pitches tomorrow.   Somebody cue Annie."The sun'll come out tomorrow"Box score courtesy yahoo.com
