breakout_coverThe New York Mets had a super breakout in all phases of the game.   The offense scored the most runs it has in any one game this season, 11 on 16 hits, the defense played an error free game, and four pitchers threw a combined shutout giving up only 4 hits to beat the St. Louis Cardinals 11-0.With one out in the 1st inning, Luis Castillo singled.   David Wright then doubled him to 3rd base, and Ryan Church batting clean up singled in Castillo to give the Mets a 1-0 lead.   In the bottom of the 4th a Fernando Tatis RBI ground out and a 2-run homer by Nick Evans made it 4-0.Met hitters made it look easyIn the 6th inning the Mets broke it open.   Tatis singled in Wright, then Brian Schneider doubled in 2 runs to make it 7-0.   The following inning the Mets put it away.   Church doubled in Castillo, Tatis singled in Wright, a Fernando Martinez fielders choice grounder plated Church and Daniel Murphy's pinch hit sacrifice fly scored Tatis for the 11th run.Wookie of the YearEveryone the Mets put on the mound looked like Chewbacca to the Cardinals.   Fernando Nieve (3-0) started and allowed only 3 hits over 6 innings.   He did walk 4, but 2 of those went to Albert Pujols.   Brian Stokes, Pat Misch and Bobby Parnell each threw a scoreless inning to finish the game.   Stokes was the only one to allow a baserunner, giving up a harmless single to Brendan Ryan.Charitable wifeDuring the SNY telecast Kevin Burkhardt spoke with the wife of Brian Schneider about a charitable endeavor.   Jordan Schneider told Burkhardt how earlier in the week a number of the players' wives had gathered together baseballs autographed by their husbands.   They then placed each ball in an unmarked bag and solicited $50 charitable donations in exchange for the bag.   Whose signature was on the ball was only revealed after the donation was given.   "We bagged about 300 balls," said Jordan.   Thank you to the players' wives for raising money for charity and to Jordan Schneider for this particular quote that tickled my immature funny bone. For the box score please visit yahoo.com
