As a Mets fan you're likely already familiar with Willie Harris, Met-killer.  You're also probably familiar with the fact that no Mets pitcher has ever thrown a no-hitter in the history of, like, forever.  You may not be familiar with tonight's Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee (1-0) who was making his first major league appearance.  So of course Gee began the game by throwing 5 no-hit innings and of course Harris led off the bottom of the 6th with a long home run to right to break up the no-hitter and the shutout because that's what happens to the Mets. There were things of greater importance than that pesky no-hitter the Mets just can't seem to get.  All but officially eliminated the Mets have little to play for but the development of their young players and hopefully winning some ballgames while conducting that development.  Tonight they managed to successfully combine both goals.  Young player Ike Davis continued his recent hot hitting blasting an epic 3-run homer off of Nationals rookie starter Yunesky Maya (0-1) in the bottom of the 1st.  The homer was so grand television camera people failed to aim high enough and missed it as it landed in the second deck of Nationals Park.  So before young Gee ever took the mound he had a 3-0 lead.  He sent the Nationals down 1-2-3 on just 9 pitches in the 1st inning then for good measure he sliced an opposite field RBI single in the top of the 2nd to give himself a 4-0 lead.  Another young player, Ruben Tejada, continued his recent hot hitting by pulling a double down the left field line in that 2nd inning and wound up scoring on Gee's hit.  Gee finished up his night with 7 innings of 1 run, 2 hit ball, walking 3 and striking out 4 on 86 pitches in his major league debut.  Young Bobby Parnell threw 4 pitches to get the only batter he faced out.  So overall it was a pretty good night for the kids.  35 year old Hisanori Takahashi was shaky in the 9th, allowing the Nationals 2 hits, but closed the game out recording his 4th save.  Final score New York Mets 4, Washington Nationals 1.box score
