The Minnesota Twins made 2 errors in the 4th inning contributing to the New York Mets 5-2 victory over them tonight. Jose Reyes
led off with a single and moved to second base on an error by Twins starting pitcher Kevin Slowey
(7-5). A Jesus Feliciano
sacrifice bunt moved Reyes to third base. David Wright
doubled to left driving in Reyes to tie the game. Ike Davis
singled to center moving Wright to third base. On the play the center fielder Denard Span
made a poor throw homeward and Wright came in to score on the error. Davis then scored on a double by Jason Bay
and the Mets led 3-1.
The Twin Span got the game started quickly hitting the second pitch from Mets starter Mike Pelfrey
(10-2) into the seats for a 1-0 Twins lead.
After the error filled 4th the Twins cut the lead to 1 in the top of the 5th when Span grounded out to drive in Nick Punto
and it was 3-2 Mets. In the bottom of the 5th the Mets got that run right back. Ruben Tejada
extended his hitting streak to 9 games when he led the inning off with a double. After Pelfrey sacrificed him to third base he scored on a sacrifice fly by Reyes making it 4-2 Mets after 5 innings.
Wright's 13th home run of the season, 3 more than he hit all of last season, was a solo shot into the right field corner leading off the bottom of the 6th that gave the Mets a 5-2 lead. Relievers Bobby Parnell
and Pedro Feliciano
each threw a 1-2-3 inning in support of starter Pelfrey then closer Francisco Rodriguez
put his usual couple of runners on base before getting Delmon Young
to ground out to third for the final out of his 17th save as the Mets held on for a 5-2 victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins.Box score
