Whoops I did it againThe last time Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals pitched against the New York Mets was October 19, 2006.   It was game 7 of the NLCS and Wainwright threw 28 pitches in 1 inning, the last one a dazzling curveball that froze Carlos Beltran for the final out, sending the Mets home and the Cardinals on to the World Series, which they won.   Tonight he was more efficient, throwing 107 pitches over 9 innings as the Cards beat the Mets 5-3 in St. Louis.Too Mainey pitchesMets starter John Maine lasted only 5 innings, throwing 115 pitches and giving up 3 runs.   He, Tobi Stoner, Pedro Feliciano and Ryota Igarashi held Albert Pujols hitless in 5 at bats (he was 2 for 14 in the series) but with the game tied at 3 in the bottom of the 8th Stoner surrendered a 1-out double to Wainwright and was replaced by Feliciano who struck out pinch-hitter Felipe Lopez.   Igarashi then came on to face Ryan Ludwick who hit a 2-run homer for the eventual winning margin, making a loser of Stoner (0-1) who may be returning to the minor leagues very quickly to make room on the roster for young 1B Ike Davis.StonerOther than the double to Wainwright, Stoner pitched well in his season debut.   He threw 38 pitches, 22 for strikes, over 2 1/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 walk and the run when Wainwright scored ahead of Ludwick on the homer.Hitters, schmittersThe Mets scored 3 runs despite only 4 hits, none for extra bases.   In the 2nd inning Frank Catalanotto, batting clean up for the 1st time in his entire life, led off with a single.   Jeff Francoeur walked and Gary Matthews Jr. singled to load the bases with no one out.   After a Rod Barajas strike out, Angel Pagan singled to right field plating Catalanotto and Francoeur.   On the throw home from right field, Pagan strayed toward 2nd base eliciting a throw to 1st base by Wainwright who had backed up the throw at home.   His throw sailed well over the 1st baseman's head allowing Matthews Jr. to score and Pagan to move up to 3rd base, but Maine then struck out and Jose Reyes fouled out to end the threat.   The Mets only got 1 more hit over the final 7 innings of the game, a 5th inning single by Pagan."I have no genitalia!"Next up for the Mets the Chicago Cubs visit Citi Field.   Probable starters Monday at 7:10pm are Randy Wells (1-0, 2.92) for Chicago and Jon Niese (0-1, 6.55) for the Mets.Box score
