Gritty McHudson cries wolf, brought to you By Jeff Passan, Yahoo! Sports: "You see guys like Jermaine Dye(notes) without a job," Minnesota Twins second baseman Orlando Hudson(notes) said Monday. "Guy with and can’t get a job. Pretty much sums it up right there, no? You’ve got some guys who miss a year who can come back and get $5, $6 million, and a guy like Jermaine Dye can’t get a job. A guy like Gary Sheffield(notes), a first-ballot Hall of Famer, can’t get a job. …"I am really put off by this comment. Although I am sure there are degrees of racism in all sports today this quote to me is plain ole offensive to the game. To think that there is some collusion among owners that they are not signing past their prime DH's to large contracts because of race is pure insanity and something that Gritty should be called out for. Look at the guys mentioned. Sheff as great as he was for us, was released for nothing by the Tigers and not even offered a contract by the Mets. He still has desires to play the OF and can't do it. Most teams are already stocked at DH and the ones who are not are using that spot to give their vets a day off. The days of a one guy DH may be nearing an end. Dye? Dye could have a job if he wanted it. His pride is keeping him from getting that job. The same pride that results in Gritty not signing with his new team until late each off-season. Perhaps Gritty should notice that there has been a new emphasis all over baseball on defensive metrics. Whether it be UZR or whatever each team uses, teams are starting to value defense over mediocre offense. So how about this Gritty McgotbenchedforBelliard, shut-up and go play baseball. Perhaps if you show up in September you may actually get a 2 year offer this time.Whoops: Forgot to give credit to MLBTR for the link to the story. Sorry Tim.
