Ugh so the gruesome twosome that are Omar Minaya and Jeff Wilpon are at it again !!! Patty and Selma BouvierJeff Wilpon Omar MinayaDavid Lennon from Newsday via his twitter account, reported that the Mets will not bid anywhere near the $40 - 60 million dollars for cuban defector Aroldis Chapman. So far it seems that Jeff isn't sticking to his " money is not a object " missive that he made on the Mike Fatcesspool show earlier this month. Is it the right approach by them to make? Who knows but from what I can sense it looks like Ownership and the Front Office are back to the " Lets be pretend we are interested to appease the fans" ruse , then when the player signs elsewhere they have the excuse that they tried but were outbid ( damn I hope I am wrong)!Okay with that said LETS BRING ONTHE INFAMY !!!First off - happy birthday to utility infielder from the early to mid '80's teams , and is currently the manager of the successful Minnesota Twins franchise - Ron Gardenhire (1957)Also celebrating a birthday is the backup catcher from the early '80's - Junior Ortiz (1959)And scrub pitcher from '05 - Mike Matthews is 36 .(1973)Sadly on this date in '73, The " Say Hey Kid", Willie Mays announced his retirement. Yes he was at the end of his career with his skills almost totally eroded but from what i have been told he still commanded respect and fear whenever he stepped up to the plate. I feel his number should be retired at Citi Field even though he only played two seasons with the Amazins' because he is a New York Legend !! ( and if Jackie Robinson can have a number retired so can the most important New York Giant whoever lived ) and like I stated Mr. Mays played for the Mets ! He is at the twilight of his life He is in the Mets Hall of Fame no Met is allowed his Jersey number (unofficially) SO RETIRE IT ALREADY !!!!Oh and there are 163 days until the Mets open the 2010 season against the Florida Marlins  at Citi Field
