- A state of melancholy depression
-see Mets Fan.Well the proverbial poop has hit the fan in Mets town, and I think Mets ownership has fled for their fall out shelter under Citi Field to avoid the advancing horde of disgruntled Mets fans. If you are listening to WFAN right now you can feel the disenchantment of the fan base oozing like a infected sore on Brian Schneider's thumb ! I personally am seething right now - I know the Mets had little shot of obtaining the services of Roy Halliday , but Omar not even placing a bid on John Lackey is inexcusable !!! I don't think I am being out of line when I say that this front office has proved time after time that they have a tendency to be clueless. But even if we get Jason Bay and Bengie Molina ( which are solid acquisitions in my opinion
) we will still have a gaping hole in our rotation and I am sorry to say but neither Jason Marquis nor Joel Pinero are the answer. Look I know even if we had obtained Lackey we would have other areas on the roster to fill, but at least we would have had one of the best two starting pitchers in our now anemic rotation. Yes Opening Day is four months away but unless Omar can pull off a hell of a trade , it will look like we will have 95 % of the same roster that we had last year . Now does that give you a feeling of confidence? Mets Ownership are you listening? Your fan base is calling !!!
" Note to the brain trusts... WAKE UP
!!"And now it's time for some more INFAMY
!!!!Happy Birthday wishes go out to back up catcher from the early '70's - Jerry May (1943) .Back up catcher from the mid '60's - Greg Goossen is 64 (1945) .Mets batting coach from '05 - '07 , and friend of Willie Randolph - Rick Down is 59 (1950) .Sadly on this date on 2004 Mets outfielder from the early '60's - Rod Kanehl passed away. His all out style of play and his penchant for legging out extra base hits earned him the nickname " Hot Rod " .
Pitcher from the '67 team - Nick Willhite passed away on this date in 2008.Texas Rangers signed utility infielder Mario Diaz of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 14, 1990.New York Mets signed free agent Lance Johnson of the Chicago White Sox on December 14, 1995. Great signing - that man could hustle !!!
Boston Red Sox signed pitcher Brad Clontz of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 14, 1998.New York Mets traded washed up outfielder David Justice to the Oakland Athletics for pitchers Mark Guthrie and Tyler Yates on December 14, 2001. Funny that Justice never played a single game for the Mets.
"It's tough being a Mets fan
!"And just remember , before you jump off that proverbial ledge - there are just 112 sickening more days until the Mets open the 2010 season against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field.
