Well the hours are turning into minutes which are then slowly turning into seconds on this last day of 2009 - and all I can say is GOOD RIDDANCE !!! Lets face it for the Mets this past season will be one that will live in INFAMY !!! From the World Baseball Classic to not even bidding on Manny Ramirez, Bobby Abreu or Raul Ibanez. From having Opening Day at night to having the season end in mid June. We went from having a big Putz in the bullpen to having a small Dickey. We had knee bruises and quad strains, torn thumb ligaments to phantom knee injuries ( thanks Ollie !). Hamstring tears and bone chips in elbows to the scariest concussion since Roger " Head Hunter" Clemmens went for Mike Piazza's head. We went from rain storms beginning in April to mid June it seems - thats when the Omar Minaya Media storm took over and almost leveled Citi field to it's foundations. Going into April 2009 the Mets went in looking like contenders, but came out looking like cadavers on the coroners table, waiting to be autopsied. What went wrong you might ask? Everything I would say. I would like to thank TRS1986 and Dirty Sanchez for giving me this opportunity to write for this blog , it had been an honor. I would also like to thank my fellow writers here and you - the reader for giving me ideas, inspiration and helping me through this rough season. I salute you and lets just hope that 2010 is not another year that will reside in INFAMY !!!!                                                                                                                                                             ... happy-new-year-in-2009.jpg                                                                                                                                                         " May we win again in 2010 !!!"Happy Birthday to possibly the most overlooked, under appreciated Mets from the '86 team - Rick Aguilera (1961). Rick pitched his heart out that season , splitting his time between the starting rotation and the bull pen, and who could forget his effectiveness in the post season that year. Sadly we traded him to the Twins soon after for Frank Viola - where he became one of the eras most dominant closers.Sadly on this date in 199 New York born pitcher from the '63- 66 teams- Larry Bearnarth passed away (1999) .Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitcher Claudio Vargas of the New York Mets as a free agent on December 31, 2008.Vargas pitched decently as a spot starter, but when late August came and the bullpen was collapsing, he was sent there and pitched poorly , enableing the second straight late season collapse to happen. And don't forget - There are only 95 more days until the Mets open their season against the Florida Marlins at Citi Field !!!
