To say last nights game against the Cardinals was a must win would be a understatement. In fact I believe it was possibly one of - if not the most important games played thus far. The Mets needed to wash the shame that permeated their bodies from this past 2-9 road-trip and show that they were still alive. And Boy did they ever show both the National League leading Cy Young award candidate and the N.L League leading Cardinals by unleashing eight runs. Both Jeff Francouer and Jose Reyes went yard ( Jose's was a impressive Pepsi Porch moonshot, while Frenchie's was caught in the left center seats by a guy that looked like Jerry Manuel incognito
). Oh and in case you didn't know - General Jerry didn't manage last nights game, because he was suspended for bumping a umpire in last weekends loss to the Dodgers. David Jauss acquitted himself well, with no unnecessary sacrifice bunts , and some very shrewd managing.Congratulations go out to David Wright for collecting the 630th RBI of his career with a sixth-inning sacrifice fly which moves him past hitting coach Howard Johnson intothird place on the club’s all-time list. Next up is Mike Piazza, who is in second place with 655 RBIs.JON NIESE has turned into the pitcher we hoped he would be. He looked a little shaky in the first two innings before settling down. He picked up his seventhwin of the season, pitching 6 innings of one-run ball.He is 3-2 in his last six starts last six starts, with a ERA of 2.09.On some minor notes, R.A Dickey was examined by the Mets team doctors, and he has been cleared to make his next start.Forgotten reliever, Sean Green, pitched a scoreless ninth inning in his major league rehabilitation outing for St. Lucie. He walked one and struck out two. And lastly the Metssigned their fifth-round draft pick, Matt den Dekker yesterday. den Dekker hit .352 with 13 home runs to help the University of Florida to the College World Series. He will report to the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets. " I'M NOT DEAD YET !!!!"
And with that said... HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
New York Mets purchased closer , Skip Lockwood from the Oakland A's on July 28, 1975. Skip is probably the most overlooked closer in the history of this franchise. He was one of the few bright spots from '77-'79
New York Mets purchased outfielder, Gil Flores from the California Angels on July 28, 1978. Does anyone remember Gil Flores? I sure as hell don't !
New York Mets traded club house pariah and outfielder, Bobby Bonilla and minor league picher,Jimmy Williams to the Baltimore Orioles for "5 tool outfielder, Alex Ochoa andback -up outfielder, Damon Buford on July 28, 1995. Hey we got rid of Bobby Bo and I remember being ecstatic at the time
New York Metstraded reserve infielder, Melvin Mora, backup third baseman, Mike Kinkade, and minor leaguers, Lesli Brea and Pat Gorman to the Baltimore Orioles for shortstop Mike Bordick on July 28, 2000. This was the worst possibly deal the Mets made during that season. They traded away the clutch Mora for Bordick , in what was a panic move by Steve " I'M A DOUCHE
" Phillips, after Rey Ordonez went down with a severe leg injury. Bordick did little to nothing both in the field and at the plate for the Mets, and was gone by the next season.New York Mets traded pitcher Paul Wilson, and Jason Tyner,to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for reserve outfielder, Bubba Trammell and reliever , Rick White on July 28, 2000. I thought this was a great trade, because both Trammell and White were clutch going down th '00 pennant stretch and well into that post season.New York Mets traded reliever Graeme Lloyd to the Kansas City Royals for Jeremy Hill on July 28, 2003.The Metswere so impressed with Mo Vaughn's style of motivation, that he is now allowed free reign at the Acella Club. By the way reservations for the club have now been backed up until 2013 !
