Dear Gary Matthews Jr.I honestly wish I could say that I am saddened by the news of your imminent release, But I was always taught to be truthful, and well the truth is - You sucked during your time in a Mets uniform !I do believe that youtoo saw the writing on the wall, with your diminished playing time due to the resurgence of Angel Pagan, the news that Carlos Beltran is starting a rehab assignment, and oh yeah - youonly hit .190 with one r.b.i in 58 at bats for the Mets! Many of those at bats were during late inning rallies with men on base, and more times than not , you either struck out or popped out. You made Fernando Tatis look clutch in comparison - Hell you make R.A Dickey look clutch in comparison when he's at bat ! I remember on Opening Day seeing your name in the staring lineup and I said to myself - " what the hell is Jerry Thinking ?!?!?" You proved me wrong that day by getting two hits and making some fine defensive plays in center field. But when two of you eleven hits came in one game then you know what - you don't deserve a spot on this roster ! But the way I look at it now - two pieces of flotsam down ( you and Mike Jacobs) , one more to go ( Oliver Perez). I hope that youclear waivers and catch on with another team . You didn't gripe about playing time when you were here like Gary Sheffield, and I thank you for that. But to borrow a song that was used by Mets fans in '69 after the Mets swept the Cubs and serenaded Leo Durocher out of Shea Stadium :" Goodbye Gary, Goodbye Gary !GOODBYE GARY ! WE'RE GLAD TO SEE YOU GO !"                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 " Don't let the door hit you in the Jr!!"And with that said ....
