Biography

Mets fan since before the Joe Torre era. Yeah he managed them. Played for them too. In fact, he did both at the same time briefly, but not well.

Mets Add To The 40 Man

As you probably know by now the New York Mets have added 4 players to their 40 man roster in anticipation of the deadline for protection from the rule-5 draft. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, among others, reports that 3B Zach Lutz, 2B Jordany Valdespin, and pitchers Josh Stinson and Armando Rodriguez have been placed on …

…and then there were FOUR

As you’ve probably heard by now the Mets search for a field manager has been painstakingly whittled down to four candidates.  A fun coincidence is that all four have ties to the Mets organization.  Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork reports those candidates are (alphabetically, don’t want you to read anything into the order) Wally Backman, Terry …

To Taka Or Not To Taka, That Is The Question

Multiple media outlets, including ESPNNY, report that with the midnight deadline for exclusive negotiations with pitcher Hisanori Takahashi approaching the pitcher is seeking a 3 year contract with a $4-5 million annual value. Mets fans I ask you:  if you were the Mets GM would you offer Takahashi a 3 year, $12-15 million contract? (editor’s …

Mets clearing roster space for the next generation

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports that the Mets have cut Raul Valdes, Eddie Kunz, Jesus Feliciano, Omir Santos and Mike Hessman.  With the claim of Joaquin Arias by the Kansas City Royals earlier today (I’ll pause so you can laugh) the Mets 40 man roster count currently stands at 34.

R.I.P. Sparky Anderson

The baseball world lost a great one today.  Multiple media outlets, including Cincinnati TV station FOX 19, report that Anderson passed away today.  He was 76.  The Hall of Fame manager won World Series Championships in both leagues.  The epic 1975 World Series between his Cincinnati Reds and the Boston Red Sox cemented my love …

According to a tweet from Jim Bowden, former MLB team executive and current host of a popular satellite radio show, new Mets Assistant to the General Manager J.P. Ricciardi indicates that going forward the Mets will be heavily involved in the international free agent market and will pay more than MLB suggests for talent in …

What’s It All About, Alfie?

Alfie is, in my opinion, a fantastic 1966 movie starring Michael Caine which the tagline “An unrepentant ladies’ man gradually begins to understand the consequences of his lifestyle” aptly sums up.  The movie has, in my opinion, a fantastic soundtrack provided by jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins which I would encourage you to check out if …

YouTube offers some glimpses at likely next GM Alderson

In this first clip from 2008, enjoy Alderson’s ability to clearly speak and communicate his thoughts while he ignores some humorous errors his interviewer makes: In this second clip from January 2010, which is just audio, Alderson comments on Mark McGwire’s steroid admission:

Would You Have Done That?

We as Mets fans have had some preliminary discussions about the Mets starting pitching staff for 2011.  With the knowledge that Johan Santana is going to spend part (hopefully just part) of the 2011 season on the disabled list there seems to be a consensus that the Mets need to add at least one starting …
