Opinion: Johan Santana, Carlos Beltran, Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina, Met History, and a Story of Redemption

Historic as it was, Johan Santana’s incredible no-hitter had so many subplots, it could have been scripted by Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld on their best day. The Mets’ history of pitching having produced zero no-hitters until last night is indeed hugely ironic. When one considers the achievements of Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Dwight Gooden, …

Postgame #45: Hefner Shows What A Number 8 Starter Can Do As Padres Smash Mets

Summary: A pretty bad game for the Mets, but one can take heart in the fact that is was our number 8 starter going tonight. The hometown boys took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second following singles from Lucas Duda (replaced on base by Vinny Rottino after a fielder’s choice) and Andres …

Opinion: Met Fans Should Stop Blaming Terry Collins and the Players for the Wilpon Finances and the Minaya Mediocrity and Should Appreciate This Team

The Mets currently sit at 23-20, a start to the season which pretty much everyone must agree has been surprisingly good. Despite being 6th in the NL in runs scored and 14th in runs allowed, despite being 15th in HR and dead last in steals, despite being 15th in ERA and 14th in ER and …

Postgame #35: Mets Get Right Back On Horse and Beat Listless Brewers 3-1; Batista, Murphy, And Francisco Help New Yorkers Move To 20-15

Summary: A close, tight game, the type which good teams win more often than not. Miguel Batista was very good for seven innings, striking out five, walking one, and allowing four hits and no runs. For the contingent of whining fans who claim that the Mets are “conceding” games by starting Batista, we can be …

Postgame # 29: Jordany Valdespin Blasts Papelbon With Game-Winning 3-Run HR For First Major League Hit

Summary: Roy Halladay was his usual Met-killer self tonight through five, with Daniel Murphy the only baserunner through those first five with a sharp single to right. Jon Niese was shaky at the outset again, allowing a double to Jimmy Rollins in the first, he advanced to third on Andres Torres’ bobbling of the ball, …

Postgame # 23: Mets Lose Tight Game to Astros 4-3 to Fall to 13-10

Summary: The Mets fell 4-3 to the 9-14 Astros in Houston tonight, failing to muster much offense and playing a somewhat sloppy game overall. The game was a serious pitcher’s duel through five scoreless innings  between R. A. Dickey and Bud Norris, with neither team mustering any offense at all. Dickey was …

Postgame # 10: Mets Move to 7-3 as Dillon Gee Continues 2012′s Dominant Starting Pitching in 6-1 Drubbing of Braves

Summary: The Mets moved to 4-0 in 2012 against their erstwhile nemesis the Atlanta Braves with a 6-1 victory at Turner Field tonight. Dillon Gee was simply masterful. The combination of his poise and location, along with the increased use of his curve, had the Braves off balance all night, with Gee striking out five …

Postgame # 4: Mets Move to 4-0 as Daniel Murphy Leads the Mets With His Bat AND His Glove

Summary: The undefeated New York Mets moved to 4-0 with a great win over the Washington Nationals tonight at Citi Field. Mike Pelfrey was his vintage self. Not terrible, showed flashes of fine pitching, but ultimately could not get the job done sufficiently. The Nationals jumped out to a quick lead in the first on …

Opinion: Hope Springs Eternal – Well, At Least For Now…

Despite the near-universal negativity regarding the Mets’ hopes for success in 2012, this writer is very excited for the new season. In just eight days, it all begins again. Another 6 month marathon where we basically become family with a group of athlete-strangers. Taking them into our homes, hearts, and minds on a nearly daily …

LMilz Takes His Act to the Far East

According to various sources, former Met Lastings Milledge (above with his dad, Florida State Trooper Tony) has signed to play with the Yakult Swallows of Japan in 2012: http://www.npbtracker.com/2011/12/yakult-announces-milledge-signing/ As Met fans remember, Milledge was once among the top prospects in the Met system. After a very good minor league career and much hype, Milledge …
