Okay I still have so much to say!
A-Rod didn't leave Ken Griffey Jr. - Junior actually went to the Reds before A-Rod went to the Rangers. So he left the team for money, big deal. In fact, the Mariners were actually better without A-Rod! They had that historic 116 wins in 2001 - the first year A-Rod was a Ranger. The other member of the 40/40 club is Alfonso Soriano, who is clean (as far as I know!) Nice tidbit, but it really doesn't have anything to do with A-Rod deserving respect.
Jeter has nothing to do with this! I hate when people have to pick 1 guy to like. Why can't people respect A-Rod and Jeter? This is like 1961, when people HAD to pick either Maris or Mantle to set the home run record. They rooted for Mantle (he was their Jeter - a career Yankee) and hated on Maris. Why? Why must it be that way? People should have room in their hearts to respect more than one player. And Jeter AND Alex deserve respect.
A-Rod and his wife Cynthia divorced in the middle of 2008. A-Rod and Kate Hudson didn't start dating until 2009.
There is a lot of charitable work that A-Rod does that he keeps under the radar. He's contributed to a Saint Basil's Academy that is very close to me. So he does a lot of charity work that isn't just for publicity. He actually cares. I just wish people would notice that. Am I saying he's perfect? Of course not. But he is a better man than most people know, and I think he's maturing with age.
Just give him a teeny-weeny bit of respect, and I'll be happy :)
No respect for Arod.
