Given the poor quality of about half of the starters in the NFL, I dont see any reason why Tebow cant be this decades Steve Deberg. A lot of depends on where he ends up, If he has to start right away, it could scar the kid for life. Tebow NEEDS at least 2 years with the clipboard, and he will be ready. But not as a rookie, he will get pounded if he has to start this year.
Neither of you determined what you think successful is. If your definition of a successful NFL QB is a championship winner then I don't think Tebow will be successful. But if your definition of successful is that the QB signs onto a team and leads his team to consistant years then I think Tebow will be successful. His mechanics are defiantly an issue and he's been throwing that way for 22 years of his life. It takes a long time to break a bad habit and it will take him a long time to flourish. Of course he will never be in the same league as the Mannings, Brees, Warner, Favre or any other elite QB but he will play well. I know HBod states how throwing the deep ball will be an issue but Tebow is a very big kid who will have no issue putting on more muscle to throw the ball. This is a very close to debate weather he will be a good QB. But the winner would need to clarify what they use as their definition for "successful QB".
Nascarta, you make a fair point. Nobody did state what "successful" means. My definition is that Tebow can become a consistent starter in the league. Many people have already decided the Tebow cannot be a qb at the NFL level. I disagree and think that his work ethic and drive will allow just that to happen. I know he has mechanical flaws, but we will find out how much they have changed when he unveils his new delivery at pro day March 17th I believe. Even if it's not perfect, if he is showing improvement, it's a great sign that he is willing to learn and grow as a player in order to become successful. I see Tim as the type to be a wildcat qb/backup for a couple of years before taking over and being a consistently good qb. He may never be a consistent pro bowler and he may never win a super bowl, but I would be willing to bet that he takes a team or 2 to the playoffs in his time and I think you will see some good football out of Tim Tebow, NFL quarterback. As for the deep ball claim, Tebow already throws a decent deep ball and is a strong kid with a strong arm, that won't be an issue. The issue has always been the shorter pass and the ability to get it out quick and to the right spot, While he may not be perfect at it now, he will learn his flaws and work harder than basically anyone to improve upon them. That's the type of kid he is and that's why I believe Tebow will be a starter for a long time in the NFL. He is a winner and a leader. Those things will take him a long way. I hope that helps.
Ok i know this is old but i want to make it known that what Tim Tebow does off the field is an act. if someone responds ill explain
